Voltage - Actuated Sensory Nerve Conduction Threshold (VsNCT)

Sub Sections:
   1. Evaluation/Symtoms (Main Page)
   2. Nerve conduction velocity - NCV & DSEP
   3. Voltage - Actuated Sensory Nerve Conduction Threshold - SNCT

V-sNCT methods of measuring sensory threshold is by the use of neuro-selective frequencies to access and assess Type C fibers (5Hz) A-delta fibers (250 Hz) and A-beta fibers (2000 Hz).

V-sNCT device uses a single testing electrode with common ground, which allows the testing of a single site (nerve) for A-delta function in less than one minute. With ability to accumulate a greater volume of data, including many normal measurements, the use of graphic patter recognition monogram analysis is possible. This means the patient becomes his own control. Previous methods required several minutes to test a single site (nerve) and the limited data was compared to population averages on a bell-shaped curve. Complex ratios between the Type C and A-delta and A-beta fibers were also used. However, since C (slow pain) fibers are often hyperesthetic at sites of referred pain, and A-beta fiber hypoesthesia is consistently found to be the greatest at the site (nerve) involved with in a true neuropathy. A-delta may also be hyperesthetic conditions causing an irritation, such as early stages of slowly progressing spinal joint osteoarthritis.

This is part of a patented combined device/method using a unique modulated waveform stimulus that allows repeatable measurements within <0.2 mA. With this order of reproducibility, malingering is easy to detect and, therefore, the measures can be considered objective though they are based on a subjective response.

Physicians are currently performing this test on their patients who have these symptoms.
